Training in Babylon
Daniel and three friends were selected for training at Nebuchadnezzar’s royal college, preparing for high-ranking positions in the Babylonian Empire. They enjoyed the privilege of eating food from the king’s kitchen and received three years of instruction from top scholars. While this seemed better than the harsh conditions faced by other captives, it was part of the king's plan to make them loyal servants by having them forget their religious roots.
However, Daniel found the royal food unhealthy and against Scripture, deciding not to defile himself with it. Despite the pressure to conform, he and his friends resolved to follow God unconditionally. Daniel requested a ten-day test where they would only eat vegetables and drink water.
The results were remarkable. At the end of the period, Daniel and his friends were healthier and mentally sharper than all others. The king found them ten times better in wisdom and understanding than any of his magicians and astrologers. Consequently, they were appointed to government positions, with Daniel receiving the additional gift of understanding and interpreting dreams and visions. Their faithfulness to God led to His blessing and favor.
