Cambodia to provide training on technical skills for 1.5 million young people
Cambodia's private sector is gearing up to provide vocational training in technical skills for approximately 1.5 million young people, aiming to fortify the nation's skilled labor pool, enhance capabilities, and drive down production costs. The initiative, slated for imminent launch, underscores a collaborative effort to empower youths from impoverished and vulnerable households nationwide.
In a pivotal move, the Cambodian government officially unveiled plans for the vocational training and technical skills program in mid-November, with a particular focus on youth empowerment.
The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training cemented this commitment on November 11 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with representatives from 18 private sector associations. These organizations have been urged to mobilize their members in providing practical training opportunities for students enrolled in the program.
Highlighting the significance of public-private cooperation, the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) convened under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. This dialogue served as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration between government leaders and the private business community, with a shared goal of bolstering economic activities across the nation.
During the forum, Oknha Nang Sothy, representing the private sector's career connection working group, voiced staunch support for the government's prioritization of vocational training for the youth workforce, emphasizing its pivotal role in shaping Cambodia's economic landscape.
