Cyclone Strikes Bangladesh and India, Leaving at Least 16 Dead

At least 16 people have died after Cyclone Remal struck coastal areas of India and southern Bangladesh.

The cyclone brought winds of 110 km/h, heavy rain, and tidal surges, causing severe flooding and damage. Nearly a million people were evacuated ahead of the storm, which impacted 8.4 million residents, including 3.6 million children.

In Bangladesh, 10 people were reported dead, with many homes destroyed or damaged. In India's West Bengal state, six deaths were confirmed, including three from electrocution. The cyclone disrupted power, uprooted trees, and flattened homes, leaving many without electricity and facing food shortages.

Humanitarian agencies, including the IFRC and Save the Children, are providing emergency support. The cyclone underscores the region's vulnerability to extreme weather events, exacerbated by climate change.
