4.Daniel Interprets the Dream:

Head of Gold

In King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the golden head of the statue symbolized Nebuchadnezzar himself and his kingdom of Babylon. Daniel proclaimed, “You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has made you ruler...you are this head of gold” (Daniel 2:37-38). Babylon ruled from 605 to 539 B.C., centered near modern-day Iraq. The Babylonians, worshiping the golden god Bel-Marduk, found pride in this symbolism. However, Babylon's glory was not eternal.

Chest and Arms of Silver

Daniel continued, predicting, “But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours” (Daniel 2:39). This kingdom, represented by the chest and arms of silver, was Medo-Persia. In 539 B.C., Cyrus the Persian conquered Babylon, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 44:28; 45:1) made 150 years earlier. Medo-Persia ruled from 539 to 331 B.C.

Belly and Thighs of Bronze

Next, the bronze belly and thighs symbolized the Greek Empire. Daniel stated, “a third kingdom of bronze...shall rule over all the earth” (Daniel 2:39). Alexander the Great’s Greece conquered Persia at the Battle of Arbela in 331 B.C., establishing the third great world empire, which lasted until 168 B.C.

Legs of Iron

The fourth kingdom, represented by legs of iron, was Rome. Daniel described it as strong as iron, crushing all others (Daniel 2:40). After Alexander's death, Greece weakened, and Rome rose, defeating Greece at the Battle of Pydna in 168 B.C. Rome ruled during Jesus' time on Earth and fell in A.D. 476.

These prophetic interpretations demonstrate God’s sovereignty over human history, unfolding His plans through successive kingdoms, each fulfilling the divine prophecy revealed to Daniel.
