Cambodia and UAE Commit to Fast-Tracking Agreement to Expand Markets and Boost Investment

Cambodia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are committed to expediting the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to enhance market access for goods and services, boost investment flow, and create jobs. This commitment was affirmed during a meeting between the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sok Chenda Sophea and UAE Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri in Bangkok on May 13. The CEPA, signed in June 2023, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation and increase mutual benefits in various sectors.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with their longstanding friendship and strong cooperation since establishing diplomatic relations in 1994 and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and mutual support internationally. They discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism.

In a separate meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet, Ambassador Aldhaheri pledged to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, energy, and tourism. Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the Royal Government of Cambodia's priorities in infrastructure, clean energy, tourism, agriculture, and technology to achieve job growth, equity, efficiency, and sustainability. He highlighted Cambodia's goal to increase clean energy consumption to 70% by 2030 and to stop constructing coal power plants.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also emphasized the importance of tourism and expressed optimism that cooperation with the UAE would boost tourist numbers. He encouraged the Ambassador to continue promoting cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
